How numbers work in Moja

A number is an inventory item, not a campaign setting. You buy or port it into your account, and then attach it to a campaign. The same number can be detached and reattached without being released, and its history stays with it.

Local or toll-free. Local numbers carry an area code and tend to be answered more often by consumers who recognise the region. Toll-free numbers read as a business line and are not tied to a geography. Both work identically inside Moja; the difference is caller behaviour and cost.

Static or pooled. A static number is attached to a campaign and stays there — you give it out, print it, or hand it to a publisher. A pooled number is one of a set that DNI hands out per website visitor so the resulting call can be tied back to a session and an ad click. Buy static numbers for durable placements; use a pool when attribution matters more than the digits.

E.164 is the format to build against. A leading +, the country code, then the national number, with no spaces, dashes, or parentheses:

Digits-only formats are tolerated by some matchers, but E.164 is what to send in RTB requests, webhooks, and postbacks. When Moja matches a call by phone number, it matches against the caller’s ANI — the inbound caller ID — not the number they dialled.

Note

Formatting failures are quiet. A number sent as (310) 555-9876 does not usually produce an error; it produces a request that matches nothing, which looks exactly like a no-bid. If an integration is mysteriously finding no calls, check the format first.
